Advanced Diploma in Civil Construction Design
Course Overview
This qualification prepares you for work as a senior civil works designer or a para-professional designer, who supports professional engineers in the design and construction of infrastructure projects. This course will teach you to perform broad, specialised, complex and technical tasks.
You will be responsible for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of clients’ site requirements. You will be required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.
You will develop skills in:
- Using computer-aided design (CAD) software including AutoCAD and REVIT to produce detailed drawings, plans and designs for construction work.
- Preparing civil designs
- Managing the civil works design process
- Construction management to meet the needs of the Australian market.
Course Entry Requirements
International students must have a good command of written and spoken English.
- Have demonstrated an IELTS level of at least 6 or equivalent or the successful completion of at least General English Upper Intermediate or English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level.
- Have a suitable level of language, literacy, and numeracy to complete course requirements with or without additional support that Britts College can provide.
Please Note: All the students commencing this course are required to complete the LLN test on the orientation day to assist Britts College in identifying students’ needs for additional support during their study.
Academic RequirementNo prior academic requirements apply for this qualification; however, britts college require successful completion of Australian Equivalent Year 12 qualification or higher.
Age Requirement
All applicants must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the course.
Course Pathways
Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into a range of Graduate Diploma qualifications, as well as higher education qualifications in Civil Construction or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil). They may also join the workforce in the building & construction industry.

This course involves a number of learning and assessment methods. Typically, the learning methods may include presentations and discussions, demonstrations, individual and group activities, skills practice, role plays, case studies, simulated scenarios, and research activities.
Assessment methods generally include practical observation of tasks, written or oral questioning, case studies, role plays, reports, research projects, presentations, etc.
You may be eligible for Credit Transfer if you are able to demonstrate that you have achieved competency in the same or equivalent unit/s in a Nationally Recognised Training from any Registered Training Organisation.
